About Us

At present We are holding public meetings at the Holiday Inn Express, Ferensway, subject to a members' decision at the next AGM. The Royal Hotel is currently closed to group meetings. Our first live meeting of 2021 took place on Monday 11th October, 2021.

Public Meetings and Visits

The Society monitors planning decisions and applications every week and comments to the city’s Planning Department about applications we think are significant for Hull's townscape and environment. We also have a voice at the monthly Conservation Areas Consultative Committee and have a continuing dialogue with the City Council on issues that fall within the aims stated in our constitution.

Town Planning

From the earliest days, one of the Society’s contributions to the environment of the city has been tree-planting.

The largest number planted at one time was 25 silver birches in Pearson Park to mark our Silver Jubilee in 1989. In 2012 we planted a holly oak at the History Centre to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Since 1968, we have awarded Good Marks to celebrate well-designed new buildings, sensitive restoration of older and historic buildings, books on local topics, bridges and a variety of other achievements that benefit Hull and district and its citizens.

Good Marks
Our 32-page, A5 size Newsletter is published three times a year and contains articles, illustrations, planning news and Civic Society notices.
